“Vogue” by Elijah Yutuc
Elijah is a good friend of mine and coworker at Goorin Brothers. He is graduating, quite soon, from a photo program at Langara College, and I had the pleasure of doing this collaboration several weeks ago with him for an assignment on lighting. He knew I had a passion for emulating 30′s and 40′s manner of dress. One day when I had been showing him the style of hats I like to make, we were browsing Google photos from Vogue and he decided he would like to try and emulate some of the things we were coming across. We talked a lot about lighting and pose. Elijah was incredibly professional and I enjoyed working with him immensely. He gave me so much direction, which I always appreciate when I’m modeling, and provided me with examples of exactly what he wanted – yet he wasn’t so stringent as to command the whole shoot. He encouraged me to style myself (I provided the wardrobe) and he wanted me to use some of my own hats. I used some of my hats as well as some refurbished Goorin hats. The final images include a 40′s inspired hat based on one I had seen in The Women (1939) . The second is my favorite hat from Goorin, called Helena, and the third is an old damaged Goorin style which I put my own band and bow on.
